Action Hero

Gemma Paintin & James Stenhouse have worked together as Action Hero since 2005. Their ongoing interests lie in the iconography of popular culture and its use; both as a weapon and as a shared cultural memory, and although their work manifests many different forms, the live experience is at the heart of everything they do.

In 2017 Gemma & James will spend several months travelling across Europe in a motorhome, visiting theatres, festivals and communities on the way in an attempt to understand what it means to be part of Europe and to be European in the 21st Century. Through conversation with the people they meet they will create performance inside the motor home to be performed for audiences along the way, and a performance lecture for larger audiences at significant stops on the journey. A blog will track them in real time as they ‘slow tour’ Europe to try to discover the character of a continent.
