Astronaut

Sleepdogs create fictions for stage, screen and digital media, with a strong emphasis on new writing, surprising storytelling and highly distinctive integrated sound design. ‘Astronaut’ is a miniature for theatre spaces merging the disciplines of sound installation, live art and storytelling theatre. It was first commissioned and presented in this form at Arnolfini, Bristol in 2008 and remains perhaps the best short-form introduction to Sleepdogs’ style: simple, careful framing; a skewed, very British sense of humour; precise use of sound design; and a vivid prompt to the audiences’ imaginations.

“Beautifully tender and emotive… as if the magnitude of space is presented and then gently removed… an excellent theatrical journey.” A Younger Theatre on ‘Astronaut.’

“What starts out as ludicrous standup in feathers and claw feet carries with it a startling emotional trajectory, moving from savage humour to a haunting final scene…” The Guardian on ‘Buzzard.’

“Sometimes a piece of performance is so right that it makes you feel glad to be alive and in possession of senses. The Morpeth Carol is such a piece…” Venue Magazine on ‘The Morpeth Carol.’
